Getting started
Add Caffeine does not open a window when it launches: it lives in the menu bar. Look for the cup icon ☕ to the left of the clock and click it to open the panel.
- Turn it on for everything: click the "Add Caffeine" tile at the top of the panel. The ring around the cup shows the time left.
- Only certain apps: check apps in the list. Caffeine stays on only while one of them is running — when the app quits, the Mac can sleep again.
- Duration: 15 min, 30 min, 1 h, 2 h, unlimited (∞), or a custom time in minutes. When it expires, everything turns off.
- Keep the display on: a separate option, off by default. It only applies while Add Caffeine is on.
Frequently asked
The display still turns off. Is that a bug?
No. By default Add Caffeine prevents only system sleep — the display dims and turns off as usual, which is what you want for downloads, renders, and background services. To keep the monitor on as well, enable Keep the display on.
My Mac slept anyway.
Add Caffeine prevents sleep caused by inactivity. Closing the laptop lid, choosing Apple menu → Sleep, or running out of battery still put the Mac to sleep — that is system behavior no app can override.
How do I make it start automatically?
At the bottom of the panel, click Open at login. It is off by default: the app never registers itself.
Which languages does the app support?
English and Brazilian Portuguese. The app follows your system language — change it in System Settings → General → Language & Region.
